The Covid-19 pandemic brought upon many challenges for home-based workers across the globe. Work was reduced significantly for most, supply chains were disrupted, raw materials became more expensive, therefore, making products pricier, production became more expensive, stores closed, making organisations struggle for survival.

One of HNI’s priorities is to strengthen our affiliates organisations. In this way, it was decided to launch a webinar series on Access to Markets to share different models of organising, to understand the needs of HNI affiliates in accessing markets for the products made by Home-based Worker and to collectively plan on what HNI and affiliates can do locally, nationally, regionally and globally to increase access to markets by organisations of HBWs.

HNI’s Access to Markets Webinar – Session 1

HomeNet International hosted its first session on access to markets with affiliates on March 30, 2022. Examples of different models of organising and successful strategies used by affiliates during the pandemic were shared.

HomeNet Africa’s Access to Markets Webinar – Regional Perspective

The second session of the Access to Markets webinar for HomeNet Africa took place on the 4th of August, 2022, with participants drawn from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa. In attendance were representatives from HNI, WIEGO and invited guests from Zimbabwe and Ghana.

HomeNet Southeast Asia’s Access to Markets Webinar- Regional Perspective

The second session of the Access to Markets webinar for HomeNet Southeast Asia took place on August 20th, 2022, with participants drawn from Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. In attendance were representatives from HNI, WIEGO and invited guests from the Philippines and Kenya.

COTRADO ALAC’s Access to Markets Webinar – Regional Perspective

The second session of the Access to Markets webinar for COTRADO ALAC took place on September 8th, 2022. In attendance were participants from Latin America, HNI and WIEGO and invited guests from Undugu Fair Trade Ltd, ATEMDO Brazil and Sabah Nepal.

Access to Markets for Home-Based Workers – Final Planning Session

HomeNet International hosted its concluding webinar of the six-part webinar series on Access to Markets. It focused on the needs HNI affiliates have regarding access to markets for the products made by HBWs. It was also a planning session which provided focus areas for HNI’s Access to Markets Programme.
