Pakistan is the first country in South Asia to recognise the contribution of home-based workers in economy and register them in the Sindh Province.
A formal memorandum of understanding (MoU) to register HBWs in Sindh, was signed on 11th November 2020, between the Labor and Human Resource Department, Government of Sindh, and Home-based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF). The registration is expected to begin soon and it will enable home-based workers to avail the social security benefits, marriage and death grants as well as the right to unionize for collective bargaining.
“We are pleased to announce that now the next step is of registering home-based workers in Sindh with the labour department,” said Zehra Khan, founder and general secretary of the Home-Based Women Workers Federation (HBWWF).
