Home-based workers face challenges in accessing social protection due to their exclusion from existing laws and policies. They are often not recognized as workers and thus do not receive adequate coverage or benefits. This lack of recognition and inclusion deprives them of the necessary financial security, healthcare benefits, and social assistance that are essential for their well-being and livelihoods.
This parallel event focused attention on the challenges of universalizing social protection under conditions of high informal employment and specifically highlighted the obstacles faced by HBWs. We discussed successful models and strategies that have been implemented to support HBWs and emphasize workers’ global primary demands.
