While reviewing the Travel Policy, the HNI Finance Committee identified the need to explore the feasibility of a dedicated Care Policy. They observed that although HNI covers all travel-related expenses and also provides home-based workers with an out-of-pocket allowance while travelling on behalf of HNI, the costs incurred for child care or elderly care are borne by the travellers themselves.
As a result, the Committee decided to develop a Care Policy that will be implemented once HNI is financially robust. This ensures that there are no rollbacks or restrictions on future enhancements.
The policy will cover expenses related to child care, elderly care, care for dependents with disabilities, maternity/adoption, and accident and emergency health care, with scope for future enhancements. This policy will apply to HNI Executive Committee members, the Secretariat, and home-based worker representatives attending events on behalf of HNI.
