The HomeNet Southeast Asia Executive Committee meeting was held on the 21 st March, 2023 with about 4 objectives and bringing together participants from 6 countries of Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam as follows;
- Report back on the activities of the region for the past one year and plans for the next.
- Preparation and participation of social protection events lined up for the next day.
- Preparation for HNI Congress.
- Public launch of the HNSEA online marketing platform.
The Executive Committee was joined by invitees from HomeNet Eastern Europe and Central Asia, HomeNet Africa, HomeNet International, StreetNet International and WIEGO.
The regions Executive Director took the participants through the activities for the year noting the following;
- That the Executive Committee had held 8 online meetings in the region.
- That the region had participated in an in person Social Solidarity Economy thematic workshop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
- That the region had worked on focused work issues on social protection with a research carried out in Vietnam.
- That the region had participated in a regional dialogue on social protection on the convergence space at the workshop with ACSC/APF.
- That the region attended the ILC 2022 discussions on decent work.
- That the regional activities have been funded through the SIDANet Grant to about USD91,600 and Ford Foundation Social Justice Bond Grant of about USD151,240 USD.
- That 4 representatives from HNSEA have participated in HNI online monthly meetings.
- The regional meeting did receive in country reports from all the 6 countries.
The regional meeting did discuss the plans for the next year and specifically identified the following areas for engagement with the membership.
- Social solidarity economy (SSE). Market access and marketing.
- Social protection.
- Country networks growth.
- ILC 177 ratification.
- ILO R 204 localization.
Discussions on the HNI congress preparations took place with a brief from the HNI International Coordinator and additional comments from the regional coordinator HomeNet Africa, and a few remarks from HomeNet Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It was reported that HomeNet Southeast Asia already identified the 2 representatives to HNI to be part of the Executive Committee as well as identified the regional coordinator whose portfolio is referred to as the Executive director at HNSEA. An informal discussion was later with all other regions and the office bearer positions for HNI Executive Committee was discussed with an agreement that the president position to go to HNSEA, vice president to HNSA and treasurer to HNA. The meeting adjourned after the presentation and discussion around the HNSEA online marketing platform.
