HomeNet International (HNI) is a global network of membership-based home-based workers’ organisations. We represent more than 1.3 million home-based workers from 71 organisations spread across 30 countries.
Purpose of the Role
The International Coordinator (IC) is the head of the Secretariat of HNI and leads the operations of the organisation. The IC is accountable to the Executive Committee and will work closely with Office Bearers to implement the decisions and plans of the Congress. This role will require the candidate to foster the growth, visibility, and organizational capacity of HNI on a global scale.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance:
- Work closely with the Executive Committee of HNI to ensure good governance and accountability.
- Prepare and convene regular meetings with HNI’s Executive Committee, Office Bearers, Finance Committee and Regional Coordinators keeping them informed about HNI initiatives and developments.
- The recording and circulating of minutes of Congresses and Executive Committee meetings and ensuring effective communication with affiliates.
Management and Oversight:
- Manage the Secretariat and ensure its timely and effective operations in line with Executive Committee directives.
- Ensure the implementation of the activities and plans agreed upon by the Executive Committee
- Maintain a well-functioning office and secure appropriate resources within financial constraints.
- Management of the HNI affiliation.
Programme Development and Coordination:
- Support Secretariat in the development of programmes and budget.
- Expand HNI programmes to enhance organizational capacity at global and regional levels.
- Work closely with Regional Coordinators to ensure effective implementation of HNI programmes and initiatives.
- Coordinate global campaigns, activities, and research relevant to home-based work.
- Facilitate training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and leadership development for HNI affiliates.
Representation and Advocacy:
- Strengthen HNI’s presence and voice on global platforms with affiliates and advocate for home-based workers' rights.
- Build and expand alliances and linkages in support of HNI and home-based workers rights.
Financial Management and Fundraising:
- Oversee HNI’s financial management including preparing an annual financial report, budget proposals, and maintaining books for audit purposes.
- Establish an independent financial system for HNI.
- Lead efforts to secure funding and resources to support HNI's operations and growth.
Legal and Administrative Development:
- Support the development of HNI as a duly registered legal entity.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure HNI policies comply with international legal standards and are periodically reviewed to reflect regulatory updates and the evolving needs of the organization. Develop new policies as necessary.
Communication and Knowledge Management:
- Ensure effective communication with affiliates, including updates on initiatives, and organizational developments.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to enhance HNI’s internal and external visibility, including effective use of the website and social media platforms.
- Stay informed on developments related to home-based work and ensure relevant research is conducted and shared with affiliates.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in International Development, Labour Studies, Management, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Proven experience of at least 10 years in organizing workers in membership-based organizations, trade unions, associations, cooperatives or any other democratic organization, preferably home-based workers or other workers in the informal economy, particularly in a leadership or coordination role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the challenges faced by home-based workers globally and mechanisms for enhancing their rights and livelihoods.
- Strong capacity for advocacy and capacity-building, with experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders including governments, NGOs, and international bodies.
- Experience in project management, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Familiarity with international accounting standards (IFRS,GAAP) is a valuable asset for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance across diverse jurisdictions.
- Understanding of fundraising and resource mobilization strategies to sustain the organization’s efforts.
- Proficient in using digital tools and platforms for communication, collaboration, and reporting.

Work Environment and Travel:
- This role is based remotely.
- Frequent collaboration across different time zones is required.
- Frequent international travel for meetings, events, and capacity-building initiatives.
